And OH!! My mom just LOVED IT...she was a huge fan of the Monkees when she was younger, and it was like her dream come true to finally get to see them "even though they are OLD now," she laughed...and after the show, they had a brief meet-and-greet and photo shoot, so here we are. (he's a short little bugger). I asked Mickey if he'd sign my breast, and he got a big laugh, but shook his head and said, "Maybe next time." He didn't have time to get photos taken with people, apparently, but he did go around and sign autographs while people waited in line. So, all in all, we had a good time.
The venue, however...well, if you have ANY say-so whatsoever in YOUR upcoming new album tour, (and you WILL have one, right?!), then SKIP this particular venue. It's fairly new, it's the American Eagle outside concert pavilion, and while the location is decent, the "grass" area is very small, and they really do NOT seem to be very organized. That is, they had no stantions, no official announcements, nobody seemed to know what was going on.
When we first arrived, they told us the meet and greet was cancelled---even though we paid an extra $60 for the price of a VIP ticket---so they decided to give us all a t-shirt and a poster instead (a very lame substitute)---BUT---within minutes, they ran out of Large and X-Large shirts, so all we could get was ONE style, in small or medium. SUPER LAME!! People were NOT happy, to say the least, which is why Davy and Mickey finally compared how much $$ they would lose if they refunded us all $60, to how much they would MAKE for an extra half hour of meet and greet, and apparently that won out. (Greedy dinosaur band indeed).
I was disgusted, also, because the VIP people (including us) were able to get in and sit down on a chair at a table, BUT then the general admission people came in afterwards, and STOOD IN FRONT OF US, making it nearly impossible to see anything unless we stood up too. And of COURSE, they all had to walk back and forth RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME the whole time, getting more beer---spilling some on my foot now and then---standing in front of me, GRRRR...why the HELL didn't they put the chairs and tables NEAR THE STAGE, RIGHT CLOSE TO IT, and let all the General Admission people stand up BEHIND US?!! For cryin' out loud.
And, while I'm at it, will you please explain to me, Stephen-my-love, why the HELL they don't build stages THREE FEET HIGHER IN THE AIR so that EVERYBODY in the damned audience can actually SEE the people performing?! Who plans that crap, and why don't they have any common sense?!! I'd like to smack that guy, whomever he is. So, yeah, just skip the AE Pavilion in PA, it sucks. Go for the Consol Energy Stadium instead, that one is awesome, very organized, and plenty of great seats that everyone can actually SEE what's going on, even if you're sitting in the nose-bleed section.
I didn't know it, but Davy said he lives near Harrisburg PA, half of the year. I'm sure he takes off when it gets too cold, though. Maybe he goes back to England for the winters, who knows. I took some video clips of the concert too, here's one for you...
Hope you like it. Pete loves to go to a lot of concerts, in case you haven't figured that out yet. He used to be a DJ years ago, so he's got a huge eclectic knowledge about all sorts of bands, inside stories, history of various musicians, all that stuff...I'd lose to a game of Musical Trivial Pursuit if I played him. He also DJ'd during college, and played all this "new" music, with artists who aren't popular, but who were good enough to debut on a radio station locally. So, he's very much into music and artists.
Well, tomorrow morning bright and early, my mom and I are driving up to Michigan. My nephew Joshua has graduated high school (by the skin of his teeth), and his graduation party is Saturday. We'll only be staying the weekend, and heading back to PA on Monday. Short but sweet, and believe me, that's all you really SHOULD spend in Michigan, a very short time, because that state just sucks. Seriously, I'm from Michigan, I can say that....WITHOUT pointing to my hand to show you WHERE I AM FROM. (heehee)
So, I'm off to the wild blue yonder, but I'll be thinking about you, and I will try to update you while I'm there, but I'll only have my cell phone so it may be tricky to do anything too fancy. I'll do my best though. Hope you have a great weekend, and I will write again soon.
Love you lots...xoxo
Rebecca
