Hi Stephen,
I hope you're enjoying your weekend so far. It's midnight, and I am ready for bed.
Just wanted you to know that I am going to start a brand new diet tomorrow, from a place called "Healthy Performance." (www.healthyperformance.net). It's a diet that has been around for 30+ years, and both Pete and I are going to do it together. I'd like to wear a bikini this summer, if possible, so I'm gonna try.
Anyway, I'll write more again soon, but I wanted to say that today was a sad day for Whitney Houston's family, friends, and for others who loved her, including her many fans all over the world. I have absolutely NO problem at ALL with New Jersey's decision to lower the flags to half-mast in honor of her death. Some people are throwing a fit about it, because traditionally, it's only meant for "elite" military people or government officials. Yeah, I know all that.
But, in my opinion, WHO really CARES. It's a flag. It's halfway up the pole. In the grand scheme of the universe, it's no big whoop really, and it's over in less than a day. SO GET OVER IT. There are so many other REAL problems in the world to get upset about than something THIS petty.
I'm not saying that I don't agree that our soldiers DO deserve an honor such as that, I have the utmost respect for them and I'm all for it. But it shouldn't just be for THEM and THEM ONLY, and if we put the flag halfway down the pole for every soldier who died, that flag would NEVER BE AT THE TOP OF THE POLE. There are so many other deserving people who have contributed to our world in other ways who were amazing and special and should also be honored in some way. Maybe this wasn't exactly the PERFECT way to honor her, but it's something that MEANS something honorable, and that's really all that they were trying to do. Again, I say, GO PUT YOUR OUTRAGE TO GOOD USE AND SOLVE A REAL PROBLEM THAT WE ALL FACE IN THIS WORLD, and GET OVER IT.
Ya really gotta pick your battles in this life. A flag halfway up a pole is really insignificant, if you think about it. It's the TRADITION that people are unable to CHANGE from, and that's the issue really. People just don't like CHANGE, and unfortunately, the only sure thing in LIFE is CHANGE.
Anyway, have a good weekend and I'll talk to you later gator. Love you lots.
Love, Rebecca
