Something I remember very vividly...

Hi Steve,

Today is the anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy in 1986.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  I was a senior in high school.  A teacher brought in a t.v. to our classroom, and we watched it before the take-off, and then sat there stunned and confused when we saw it explode in mid-air.  As the details unfolded, we remained riveted to the screen and the horror, and I remember that the thought of pieces of charred human bodies falling on the onlookers below made me sick to my stomach.  It was almost as horrible as watching the Twin Towers fall on 9/11 on t.v. in 2001.  THAT I cannot talk about.

Ah well, what a great way to start a Monday, huh?!  Just call me RAY OF SUNSHINE.

It is 9:10 a.m. and Pete is still snoozing.  The whole east coast has had a nasty ice storm overnight, and in DC even my Museum is delayed to open until noon because of it.  That is highly unusual, so you KNOW it had to be pretty bad.  Schools in my hometown of Muskegon Michigan are even closed, which (for Michigan), is UNHEARD of.  I was in a head-on bus collision once because they wouldn't close the schools on a day of a huge blizzard.  So to have lots of schools closed there MUST mean it was pretty severe.  Luckily I don't have to go out in it today.

A new diet is on the horizon in my silly life.  Yeah, I get tired of EVERY JANUARY, seeing diet commercials on t.v. constantly.  Pete got a book entitled "The Blood Sugar Solution" by Dr. Mark Hyman, and it's all about "diabesity." (Clever play on words...he's not a doctor, he's a GENIUS).  Ahem.  So, anyway, we're going on this new diet, cutting out most carbs, getting rid of wheat completely, and exercising more.  BLEAH.  But, ok, I'll try just about anything once.  I would love to look gorgeous at camp this summer, that's for sure.  If I beat diabetes while looking gorgeous, I win!!

If I have bummed you out with that first paragraph my friend, I do apologize. Here's something funny:

Ok, ok, maybe that's not exactly hilarious, but I laughed.

Here's one you can relate to, I'm sure:

Ok well, on that note, I'm outta here. Have a great week.  Oh, I did have a dream this morning that I was listening to a Journey ALBUM on a RECORD PLAYER at a pool party, but the pool was too cold so I just sat listening to music, and then on the radio that somebody else had playing at the same time, I overheard STEVE PERRY ON TOUR!  And I nearly fell off my chair.

Then I woke up.  I'm such a silly dreamer. We all know THAT can't happen, right?!

(DOUBLE DOG DARE YA).

I love reverse psychology.

Love, Rebecca
