My conversation with Neal Schon on Facebook. FACEPALM.

Hi Steve,  well here is the conversation that I had with Neal on Facebook a couple days ago....I just want to face palm whenever he writes something dumb, ya know?  (I'm sure you know).  I was trying to give him a more positive, differing perspective that he could think about.  Apparently he is just too obtuse to really understand what I was trying to say.  Can't blame me for trying though.  All I know is, "haters make you famous" is a skewed way to look at the world, and I had to say something about it.  Kinda sad that his SON said that.  This whole "eye for an eye" mentality only makes everybody blind you know. Gandhi said that.  I didn't just pull it out of my ass.  It's a universal truth.

I erased everybody's last name who commented.  And I refrained from replying because I would have been continuously repeating everything Neal said on that last post word for word, "there are KIDS involved..." (doesn't he READ what he writes)?.... which would have come out sounding something like this:

So if there are "KIDS involved," and he sues their GRANDMA for every dime she's got, (she lives on social security benefits), then how are those "KIDS involved" going to REACT to him for doing such a thing, from that point on???  Doesn't he REALIZE that he's just perpetuating more negativity, escalating the situation, and causing more problems for himself with those "KIDS involved" in the long run??

I just don't get it.  If he just walks away, knowing he proved her wrong, proving with court documents that she was slandering him, filing a warning and a cease and desist order or a restraining order, and it's effectively all over and done, WHY KEEP IT GOING, WHY PUT THE KIDS THROUGH THAT?!!!  He just makes no goddamned sense.  I'd like to slap him upside the head a few hundred times.  He's so obtuse, he just doesn't want to listen to anybody else.

But I tried.  Facepalm.

  • Rebecca------- Soooooo wait a minute. This seems rather illogical. I mean, if "haters make you famous," with that logic, it's like you're saying Hitler was "Cool" because he is the international symbol of the worst possible evil who hated all Jews, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, handicapped people and Roma Sinti people--or anyone that he deemed "inferior." (I worked at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in DC for 6 years). Sorry, Neal, but I kinda have to disagree with that philosophy. Being famous because of hatred really isn't cool. Chairman Mao is still not cool either. Nixon ain't do great either, ya know? Those are just a few examples. BUT, being famous for rising to the challenge of living better than or above the hate, or counteracting it with even more love, however, is the coolest thing ever. Hatred never makes famous people cool. That's just my 2 cents. You give haters too much power over you, which is just silly.

  • Rebecca------ I am glad Neal is tempering the negativity around him with more love, I really am. But to give someone the power to make you air all your private issues and relationship problems on a public forum every day just to get sympathy from fans seems rather bizarre to me. Don't give the haters that power over you, Neal. Your privacy is something sacred that you should protect, but when you counter negative things like people who are causing you problems with MORE negativity, and devaluing that privacy out of spite or the "eye for an eye" mentality, it only makes things worse. It can't end in a good way if the hatred grows. Step back, breathe, and realize that those haters are not worth your time, are not worth your energy, and if you name their game they simply cannot play it anymore. Remove yourself from the equation and keep your privacy private. Enjoy life and don't allow anybody to drag you down to their petty BS level. You deserve better and if you strive to reach above the base ignorance and negativity around you, then it can no longer affect YOU negatively. I mean well by saying these things, please do not misunderstand. Just trying to offer a different perspective. Being surrounded by only "yes men" all the time kinda warps the way you view things, so sometimes a differing opinion may be helpful to balance that out a bit. Keep the guitar in your hands and the personal soap opera private, it will create no drama for those who crave it or strive to CAUSE it and by doing that, you will steal the thunder right out from underneath them. It doesn't make a person famous in a positive way, that's all. I do hope that you will be able to resolve everything. I also do realize that you helped others too. Just try not to give them so much power. They dont deserve to take away your happiness or your time and energy. The best revenge is to live well. Hugs.
  • Neal Schon Thank you for your advice. There's two major things to consider here 
    The Kids. Was not right to play them into it and that did start with her blogs. The other is that its always easer to say step back but it's not you in it.
