Hello Stephen,
Pete took me to see this play last night, and WOW it was SO AWESOME!!! If you ever get the chance to go see it, I highly recommend it! It's the story of one night in September, 1955, at Sun Records, when Sam Phillips gathered together Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins...and it was VERY cool, to hear them all performing their famous hits, (and WOW they were GREAT impersonators, especially the guy who played Elvis---I giggled like a school girl, it's the closest thing I've ever come to seeing the REAL Elvis....I loved it)!! The guy had him PEGGED, he totally captured the essence of Elvis, right down to every move of his hips...great googa mooga, what an awesome man he was.
I coulda lived without Johnny Cash though. It's not that I hear HIM singing...which makes me cringe anyway...but, it's that I hear my DAD singing his songs, in my head, as he used to when I was a kid...I'd have my friends come over to spend the night, and out he would come, with his acoustic guitar, playing only chords because that's all he knew how to do...and he would try--I repeat---TRY to sing those icky songs. It was horrible and embarrassing, and that is the main reason I cannot STAND country music to this day.
The coolest thing about this show is, it's a true story. Sam Phillips' character goes on about how he "sold" Elvis to RCA and Elvis wanted to go back to Sun Records, but RCA was also trying to talk Phillips into letting them take over Sun Records (I believe he said no), and then it's the announcement of Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins telling Phillips that they are leaving Sun Records to go to Columbia. But the MUSIC in the show was really really cool, and a lot of fun!!
Well, anyway, it would definitely be something you'd enjoy, I'm sure.
I have to scoot, I did a bad, bad thing, and I have to go fix it. (Tell ya later).
Bye for now.
Love, Rebecca
