Lisa sells insurance. (count to 10...let that sink in a moment before you read the following).
She KNOWS that renters' insurance doesn't cover the loss of your house in a tornado. SIGH. "Here fellas, you can have your appliances back, your computer, your big screen t.v., your CDs....all the IMPORTANT THINGS in your life....but no, you can't have a ROOF or FOUR WALLS to put the stuff in, that's not covered, sorry."
Sometimes I just want to beat my head against a brick wall...maybe I'd actually accomplish more doing THAT, than try to explain the bigger picture of things---maybe I'm NOT always RIGHT about it, but I do TRY to see both sides to things whenever I can----and lament that I'm trying explain it to people with narrow minds who cannot SEE the bigger picture of anything...but seem to only be able to see their own narrow views of reality.
This country is going to hell in a handbasket. Wanna move to Canada with me???

I think this has veered from your original post re Ron Paul. I read the article and agree with what he said: ""There is no such thing as federal money," Paul said, on CNN’s State of the Union. "Federal money is just what they steal from the states and steal from you and me."
"The people who live in tornado alley, just as I live in hurricane alley, they should have insurance," Paul said.
Renter's insurance is available for $9-10 per month, for at least a minimal level of coverage. 33 cents per day is too much?

Rebecca RENTERS INSURANCE only covers your BELONGINGS. It does NOT provide or pay for a ROOF, FOUR WALLS, or anything ELSE that you would need to HOUSE your belongings. Come on Lisa, you know that. You sell insurance for a living. Federal money may very well BE what they "steal" from the states---however, without it, we wouldn't have HIGHWAYS, we wouldn't have SCHOOLS, we wouldn't have the BASIC NECESSITIES that we all take FOR GRANTED.
- LisaBecky, of COURSE I know that. You were saying about not being able to afford renters' insurance. I pointed out that it is not expensive. Schools are funded by the states and local governments. Highways used to be. Due to the growth of the federal gov't since the New Deal, everyone has become accustomed to sucking at the federal teat without realizing that WE are overpaying for programs upon programs that have federal - not local - oversight, and waste too much money.;
- Lisa If someone rents a house or apartment, and the place is damaged or detroyed, the renters' insurance also pays for the living expenses while the tenant has to stay elsewhere until the rental is habitable again. The landlord's insurance pays to repair/rebuild the rental dwelling. So what isyour point there?
- Rebecca .........that is, IF the landlord could AFFORD insurance on his property in the first place. We could go 'round and 'round on this, Lisa, but I'm pooped and on my way to bed. Have a good week, we're off to NY on Wed.....got a sick kid to attend to.
