- THIS CONVERSATION IS CONTINUING AS I WRITE THIS............here's the latest......
LisaI agree completely that people should help each other willingly. That goes right along with libertarian/Objectivist beliefs. As you said yourself, nobody should feel forced to be helpful. However, federal government bailoutsforce taxpayers to be helpful in ways which the taxpayers cannot control and have no say over. I have also helped people in many ways: monetarily, with time as a volunteer, etc. - friends, family and strangers in the community. But I have chosen whom to help to the best of my ability to do so. It's the forced charity that I disagree with. So I hope you are not assuming that I am anti-charity. I am anti-big government doing the charity, because it's best run on the regional and local levels. - Lisa By the way, SW PA has the higest level of charitable giving/volunteer work in the country.
- Laurie All I can say is just be thankful for what you have.....because one day you could wake up and be the one that needs the help. Karma is a bitch..........LOL
- RebeccaThat is encouraging....is it really "Objective," as Ayn Rand saw it, or ALTRUISTIC??? That is a debate unanswered for decades. I understand that the government is corrupt, they only help themselves, they are out of touch with WE THE PEOPLE, and yes, having discourse is what this country is BASED UPON...however, back THEN, they UNITED TOGETHER, instead of bickering amongst themselves and tearing each other apart. THAT is the biggest difference I am seeing, based on history, that I do not like about our day and age. Cynicism, jaded sarcasm, mean spirited "us vs. them" bullshit isn't getting anybody ANYWHERE, and the government COUNTS ON THAT so they can just keep it going longer, padding their own pockets, while we're busy in the corner bickering and getting nothing accomplished. THAT is my biggest pet peeve about this situation. People shouldn't be THAT stupid to let decoy issues and bullshit fluff news stories distract them from DOING something about the problems that we all face. But, that's what's happening, and frankly it makes me sad and sick to my stomach. Yes, karma is a bitch, however, my point was, EVERYBODY needs help sometimes, Lisa, Pete, me, Laurie....we ALL need a boost now and then, because life kicks us all in the ASS sometimes. But to ASSUME that EVERYBODY is bilking the welfare system, or the benefit system, is BALONEY and everybody knows it. NOT EVERYBODY can be accused of it, when only a FEW are doing it. Just like you cannot lump ONE RACE OF PEOPLE together as being exactly ALIKE, (ie. Muslims are all "terrorists.") That is what HITLER counted on, that is what he created, that is what he WANTED, and the sad thing I see is, the same bullshit CAN HAPPEN HERE, and point blank-----IT IS. Mark my words. IT CAN HAPPEN HERE, folks, and it's brewing to a boiling point.
Ever wanted to talk to your favorite famous person, even if he or she is unavailable/unapproachable in real life, or dead and gone, or just not even possible to have a real conversation with? Who doesn't?! Well, so do I. So, I am going to chit-chat with the Main Man, my favorite singer in the entire world, Steve Perry, on this blog, just for the hell of it!! I'm a writer after all, so that's the kind of thing I like doing. Keeps me outta jail. *WINK*
