I was nearly asleep at midnight when my mom sent me a text..."Are you still up?"
I wrote back, "No, trying to sleep..."
She wrote back, "My dog is dying."
I ran downstairs. He was having trouble breathing. It was a very liquid-sounding wheeze, and she said, "I think he is drowning in his own fluid." I said, "Mom, I hate to say it, but I think it's time."
We drove to the vet, with tears, saying how much we love him, how much we'll miss him....my mom sobbed, "He so loved to ride in the car..."
The vet told us what we already knew. He could rescue Radar, this time. But it would only happen again, and soon. There was nothing we could do. He was suffering.
We had to put Radar down last night, and it has broken our hearts.
My poor mom is a wreck. That is the hardest thing I've ever had to do.
