I know the huge Comic Con happened in San Diego the other day, but we had one this past weekend here too. We like going to them, simply to hang out with weird people. You see LOTS of those there. And nobody blinks an eye at the costumes they are wearing, either. It's kinda like the same idea whenever we go to kinky events, and the same feel from both events too. Everybody is TOLERANT of everybody, and positive, and even encouraging. It is a nice environment, even if only temporarily.
In fact, I had a group of young girls (under 20) who were all dressed up in costumes stop and ask me if they could take MY picture! That is the first time EVER that total strangers have asked ME for a photo. (Yeah, I know, I know---YOU get that all the time). But ME?!! I was shocked really. But okay, whatever, go ahead. I don't care. As long as I don't see it on a dart board somewhere, that's cool.
I dressed up all 3 days, actually, but only took photos yesterday.
I wore my new hat....(I made it)...which is kinda like a mix of steam punk and Victorian style. So I dressed up in lace and pearls and gloves. Too bad I didn't unclip my iPhone from my waist though. This is the robot from Lost in Space, by the way.
Here I am with Chewbacca (on stilts):
He was so cool! Had all the sounds and everything! Jett Lucas was at the convention too, so I'm sure HE got a kick out of it as well. Rowdy Roddy Piper showed up with some guy in a kilt playing the friggin' BAGPIPES---GAWD how I hate that noisey thing.
Believe it or not, I got a lot of compliments on my hats. I wore 3 different hats, one each day, and a lot of people stopped me to say they loved it. In fact, even a CELEBRITY said she loved it.
We met Marina Sirtis, she was on Star Trek: The New Generation.
Her character was Deanna something-or-other. When she saw my hat, she said it was gorgeous, and that "fascinator hats are very popular in England." I told her that since Pete wore his Doctor Who t-shirt, I was "an extra" from one of the Victorian era episodes. She laughed.
So, Pete suggested that I go out to the car and get the other hat that I had brought along with me, and give it to her. When we did, she was thrilled! She put it right on immediately and asked if we would like her photo with it on....so here it is....!
I made this black hat with a large necklace charm on the front that says "Sassy Girl" and some black and white ribbon, rhinestones and feathers on the back. She said it was awesome! Very nice lady.
Anyway, so with all that encouragement, Pete and I discussed all through the day whether or not I should consider signing up to be a VENDOR at the next Comic Con in December to sell my hats. Eventually, after talking with several vendors there, we decided it would be a great idea.
So, now I have 100+ hats to make before then!! We signed up for a table, and discussed various display ideas, got a plan, called our friend Julie to ask if she might want to share the table with HER crafty items too and she said YES! And since my mom crochets all kinds of stuff, I asked HER if she might want to display some of her things too. She said "Sure!" Cool, huh?
I'm going to be a vendor at the next Pittsburgh Comic Convention.
Kinda freaked out by it, but okay, I gotta get busy!
Hope you had a nice weekend too. Love you more than any other singer in the universe. My mom saw a photo of you on my phone and said, "Wow that's a nice picture of Steve Perry." I said, "They are ALL nice...he's STILL a sexy beast!" She just shook her head and chuckled at me.
Bye for now. HUGS!!! Have a great week!!
----Love, Rebecca
